John Kamp is an urban planner, designer, and trainer. He holds a master's degree in urban planning and design from UCLA, and a bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University. He has worked as a city planner and designer for the City of Los Angeles, served as the national trainings director for the student-run arm of the Sierra Club for three years, and has worked as an urban an landscape designer for his own company, Prairieform, for the past six years, focusing primarily on water conservation, biodiversity, and sustainability. He grew up in Minnesota but has lived in Los Angeles, France, and Mexico, and has spent considerable time in Sweden. He is fluent in both French and Spanish and has worked as a Spanish-language interpreter and conducted urban design workshops and trainings in Spanish.

For PlaceIt! John runs the facilitation and training portions of our workshops, creates policy documents and designs based on the outcomes of the workshops, and designs and maintains the PlaceIt! website.
