Photos from recent workshop in Compton

February 12th, 2010 — 5:49pm

This interactive group exercise asked participants to redesign the Rosa Parks Metro Station in new and innovative ways. In creating their designs, participants were asked to draw from their own personal knowledge, previously identified community issues, and urban planning elements such as pedestrian access, uses, and cultural identity of place.  To construct their model, each group was given twenty minutes and a variety of recycled materials, such as bottle caps, wood blocks, and construction paper. When completed, each group gave a two-minute presentation on their design.  In a short of amount of time, participants designed a station area, discussed ideal solutions, and reflected on other ideas relevant to their community.
